Woman Councillor brutally assaulted for leaving RJD to join Muslim League, accuses CPM of attacking her

KOZHIKODE: A woman councillor who left the party has been subjected to a brutal attack during a council meeting. RJD councillor Shanubia Niyas of Feroke Municipality was attacked for leaving RJD and joining the Muslim League.

The attack took place during the council meeting held yesterday. A group of Left-wing MLAs tried to put a garland of shoes around Shanubia's neck. A clash broke out after the UDF members opposed this.

Shanubia said that she was both mentally and physically tortured by the Left-wing members. "What happened was a cruel revenge. CPM members were the ones who behaved in the worst manner. As the council was about to begin, the LDF councillors came up raising bad slogans against me. Following this, a scuffle broke out. They attacked and insulted me without even considering that I'm a woman," Shanubia said.
