Vande Bharat vs Green Line: Comparing flagship trains of India and Pakistan

NEW DELHI: The Vande Bharat train, launched in 2019, is one of the biggest achievements of the Narendra Modi government. It is India's first indigenously built semi-high-speed train. Vande Bharat Express is also a transport system that has taken Indian Railways to world-class standards.

Modi government is planning to launch 4500 Vande Bharat trains by 2047. India's neighbour Pakistan also boasts a train service similar to the Vande Bharat. Named Green Line Express, this train is often compared to Vande Bharat by passengers. Now, let's examine the key features of both trains.


Vande Bharat

  • Vande Bharat operates on a broad gauge electrified network
  • Its top speed is 180 kmph
  • Vande Bharat offers reclining ergonomic seats in all classes and rotating seats in the executive class

  • Mobile charging sockets on every seat
  • Pantry with automatic plug door for hot and cold water supply
  • Emergency windows, emergency push buttons and fire extinguishing systems in every coach

Green Line

  • Launched in 2015, the Green Line train is the fastest luxury train service in Pakistan.
  • Green Line Premium Train is famous for its luxurious and state-of-the-art services.
  • Green Line train service operates from Karachi to Margalla in Islamabad. It covers around 1400 kilometres in 22 hours, making stops at 10 stations
  • Green Line has an AC Parlor Class that resembles the look of a luxury bus
  • Green Line features two parlor cars, five business coaches and six AC standard coaches
  • The top speed is 105 km per hour
  • It offers Wi-Fi, onboard entertainment, food, snacks and utility kits
  • The ticket price ranges from 2200 pak rupees to 6650 pak rupees.
