CHENNAI: Police have arrested a youth who tried to kill the doctor who was treating his mother suffering from cancer. The incident took place in Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Chennai the other day. The doctor, who was stabbed 7 times by the youth, is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. The doctor, a heart patient, suffered injuries on his head and chest.

According to the police, the youth attacked the doctor alleging that he had prescribed wrong medicines to his mother. The youth stabbed the doctor multiple times without even considering that the doctor had heart issues and had a pacemaker installed. The doctor was saved from further attack by those who quickly rushed to the spot upon seeing the attack. As the youth attempted to flee, the hospital staff and bystanders apprehended him and handed him over to the police.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Tamil Nadu Health Minister said that there were no security lapses and that necessary action has been taken to prevent such attacks in the future. The minister also said that the treatment would be completely free for the injured doctor.

The incidents of attacks against doctors are on the rise in various Indian states, including Kerala. There was a huge uproar at the national level after a lady doctor was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata a few months ago.
