ALAPPUZHA: The five-day-long Kerala State School Science Festival will begin in Alappuzha today. Minister V Sivankutty will inaugurate the festival at 5 pm at St Joseph's School premises under the chairmanship of Minister Saji Cheriyan, chairman of the organising committee. The flag march to be inaugurated by Daleema Jojo MLA from Itty Achuthan Vaidyar's memorial in Cherthala Kadakkarappally and the torch rally inaugurated by district panchayat education standing committee chairperson MV Priya from the ancestral house of agronomist MS Swaminathan in Mankombu will reach the corporation's centenary building at 3.30 pm today.
The district with the highest points will win the Education Minister's Trophy, instituted by the Science Fair Organizing Committee. The procession carrying this Trophy will also assemble at the Centenary Memorial Building. Minister Saji Cheriyan will then flag off the Proclamation Procession at 4 pm. The procession will be attended by district sports council athletes accompanied by musical instruments, sportspersons and rowing players of the district who participated in the state school sports meet.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the fair at St Joseph's HSS in Alappuzha at 4 pm tomorrow. Minister V Sivankutty will preside over the function. Ministers Saji Cheriyan and P Prasad will be the chief guests.
