ALAPPUZHA: Amidst police investigation for the missing Karunagappally native Vijayalakshmi (49), her friend confessed to having murdered her. Jayachandran, a native of Ambalapuzha Karur Puthuval, was taken into custody by the Karunagappally police. Vijayalakshmi was reportedly been missing since the 6th of this month.
Vijayalakshmi's phone was found in a KSRTC bus in Ernakulam. The conductor handed over the phone to the police. After checking the mobile phone tower location and call list, the inquiry reached Jayachandran.
Jayachandran admitted to police that he murdered Vijayalakshmi by reenacting the scenes of the hit movie ‘Drishyam’. He confessed to the officials about watching the movie on a loop to perfect the crime. Based on his statement, the Karunagappally police took him into custody.
The police clarified inconsistencies in Jayachandran's statement. Vijayalakshmi was married to a native of Idukki and the couple have two children. However, the couple were not on good terms and were living separately. Vijayalakshmi meanwhile kicked a friendship with Jayachandran and is suspected to have had financial dealings with him.
Vijayalakshmi some days back reached Ambalapuzha temple and went to Jayachandran's house in Ambalapuzha Purakkad panchayat. She received a phone call at his residence which triggered a bitter verbal feud between the two. Jayachandran confessed that he killed Vijayalakshmi and buried her mortal remains in the construction site of a building near his residence. It is indicated that he killed Vijayalakshmi by smashing her head with a plier.
The police reached the spot along with the accused Jayachandran and are conducting the investigation.
