PERTH: Several incidents of loss of life have been reported on the cricket field. Young Australian batsman Phil Hughes had died in November 2014 after being hit on the head by a ball. Now the news of another accident is coming out of Australia itself. The umpire, who was controlling the cricket match, was injured. There has been such a drastic change in his face that nobody can identify the umpire who was hit by a ball.
With the latest incident, there has been a growing demand to give importance to the safety of the umpires along with the players on the field. Umpire Tony Denobrega suffered a serious face injury while controlling a local cricket match in West Australia. The straight shot hit by the batter landed straight on Tony's face. The ball hit by the batsman is often more lethal than the ball that is thrown at a fast pace.
Anyone watching a cricket match must have been shocked at least once to see the ball coming towards the umpires and them escaping it by pure luck. Tony Denobrega suffered the injury during the match between Northern Perth and Wembley Districts and was later hospitalized. Though there is no fracture in the facial bones, doctors are yet to take a final decision on whether surgery will be required. The medical team is hoping for a speedy recovery.
