THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the intention is to resolve the Munambam issue without causing inconvenience to the residents. The chief minister made the announcement during a discussion held online with the Munambam protest committee. The chief minister said that the government is trying to find a permanent solution to the Munambam land issue and not a single person with documents will be evicted. As part of ensuring these things, it has been decided to appoint former Acting Chief Justice of the High Court C N Ramachandran Nair as a judicial commission.
"The government has requested the Waqf Board not to take any action including notice. This has been approved by the board. There will be an opportunity to accurately assess the part of the residents of the land and their grievances before the commission. The government will inform its stand in the case which is in court. The government is of the view that the rights of the existing residents should be protected at any cost. In the cases pending before the High Court on the issue, the government will be a party in favour of the residents. The government will also take possible steps to lift the current high court stay on payment of taxes. Efforts will be made to convince the court of the concerns of the people," the CM said.
The Chief Minister also requested the full cooperation of the residents to speed up the functioning of the Commission. Revenue Minister K Rajan, Law Minister P Rajeev, Waqf Minority Welfare Minister V Abdurahiman, Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan, Ernakulam District Collector NSK Umesh, Vypin MLA KN Unnikrishnan, Varapuzha Archbishop Joseph Kalathiparambil, Kottapuram Bishop Ambrose Puthenveettil, Munambam Samara Samithi Chairman Joseph Sebastian, Convener Benny, Murugan (SNDP) and P J Joseph (local resident) were also present.
