Govt to celebrate 75 years of Indian Constitution today

NEW DELHI: Tuesday marks the completion of 75 years of adoption of the Constitution of India. The celebrations will be held in the central hall of the Samvidhan Sadan (Old Parliament) where the constitution was approved. President Droupadi Murmu will address the members of both houses at 11 am. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Ministers, Members of Parliament and diplomatic representatives of various countries will participate.

A special coin, a stamp, and two books on the Constitution, the Constitution in Sanskrit and Maithili will be released. There will also be a short film presentation. The INDIA bloc members wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha demanding that the opposition leaders of both houses be allowed to speak on the occasion.

But Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju confirmed that only the President, Vice President and Speaker will address while opposition leaders will be given a seat on the stage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will speak at a function organized in the Supreme Court on Tuesday at 5 pm in connection with the Constitution Anniversary. Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal, Justices B.R. Gavai, Suryakant, Supreme Court Bar Council Chairman Kapil Sibal and others will participate.
