THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the failure of police control, goons have started getting active again in Thiruvananthapuram district. It is alleged that goonda control in the district has failed completely. There have been two incidents of goonda attacks in the capital in the last two days. It is a matter of great seriousness that both attacks were directed at the police. The goons attacked the police in Nedumangad and Karamana.

Things are proceeding as if the goons are not even afraid of the police. Both the attacks took place in the midst of a gathering of gangsters and a drug party. It is alleged that even the city and district police chiefs have not taken any of the intelligence inputs that goonda gatherings are taking place regularly in various parts of the capital district seriously.

Nedumangad attack

The discussion at the top official level is that the goonda attack on the police in Nedumangad the other day is serious. It is alleged that the high-level police team in the district ignored the special branch report submitted earlier. The goons attacked people including the CI at the station. The goons attacked a police team that had gone to investigate a birthday party where around 20 notorious goons had gathered. The police were aware of the gathering of so many goons, which was prohibited. The goons celebrated the party without giving any consideration to the prohibition of the police. Even though even fugitives from many cases attended the party, the police could not handle it properly. The attack was led by notorious gangster Stamper Aneesh of Nedumangad. It was Vishnuraj, the accused in the Ananthu murder case, who attacked the police in Karamana.

Operation 'Action Against Gunda' (AAG) has stopped

The project called Operation 'AAG' to suppress the goons has also come to a halt now. The district police chiefs were informed from the police headquarters that the functioning of the AAG in the district would be assessed. However, there was a lapse in its follow-up actions. As per the action plan prepared to put an end to goonda menace in the district, it was directed to appoint one CPOs in each station to keep a separate watch on those on the goonda and rowdy list and those on the goonda potential list and to report their movements every day. This too has not been fulfilled. It is also serious that none of the main goons in the district have been caught by the police.
