NEW DELHI: The central government has granted Rs 72 crore to Kerala for disaster management. The money was not granted for specific sectors or other projects. The central share was allocated to the fund related to disaster management. Rs 1115.67 crore has been allocated for 15 states. Rs 139 crore has been allocated to Uttarakhand, Rs 139 crore to Himachal Pradesh, Rs 378 crore to the northeastern states and Rs 100 crore to Maharashtra.
72 crore has been allocated to Karnataka and Rs 50 crore each to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. In addition, mount has been allocated to the northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The amount has been allocated for activities to reduce the impact in areas prone to landslides.
The decision was taken by a high-powered committee headed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The state governments can decide how to spend the amount. The Centre has allocated Rs 21,476 crore for various states this year, the release said. The same committee had earlier allocated Rs 3,075.65 crore for flood mitigation activities in seven cities.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier said that a positive decision would be taken to allocate special funds for the rehabilitation of Wayanad.
