NEW DELHI: Adani Green Energy Limited (AGL) has denied allegations of bribery by the US against Gautam Adani and Sagar Adani. The Adani Group has issued a statement denying media reports that it is incorrect.
Adani is accused of paying $265 million in bribes to Indian officials to secure solar power contracts and committing investment fraud in the US. However, the company has clarified that no bribery charges have been filed in the US against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Vineet Jain and that the publicity surrounding the bribery case against the Adani Group is baseless.
The charge sheet alleges that the company collected money from US investors by selling debentures to secure solar power supply contracts between 2020 and 2024, concealing the fact that bribes were paid. The company said the indictment includes five charges and does not include bribery or corruption allegations against Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Vineet Jain.
The US indictment only states whether bribes were offered. However, no evidence of bribery has been presented so far. Adani Group said in a statement that the company was harmed by false news that the US had taken action against the Adani Group.
