Death of 17-year-old girl in Pathanamthitta; classmate arrested

PATHANAMTHITTA: Police arrested a male student, a classmate of the 17-year-old girl student who died of fever in Alappuzha. A medical report found that the minor girl was pregnant at the time of the death. In the interrogation, the classmate admitted to having a physical relationship with her. Police charged POCSO against the Nooranad native who just turned 18 this year.

The deceased, a 17-year-old girl was studying at a prominent school in Pathanamthitta. Just a week back, the girl suffered from a fever and was undergoing treatment at different hospitals in Pathanamthitta.

On November 22, the girl was shifted to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital after her condition worsened. She died on Monday morning but the doctors decided to do postmortem as the death raised suspicion. The girl was found to be five months pregnant during the post-mortem.

The current conclusion is that the girl may have overdosed, leading to infection and death. On Thursday, police claimed to have found a suicide note from her house.
