KOCHI: A court has sentenced a madrasa teacher to 70 years in prison and a fine of Rs 1.15 lakhs for sexually assaulting a minor girl. The accused is Pattimattom native Sharafuddeen. It was the Perumbavoor Fast Track POCSO court that passed the sentence in the case. During the investigation, it was found that Sharafuddeen had sexually assaulted the girl for three months. The torture took place from November 2021 to February 2022.

The girl had told the police that the accused used to sexually assault her after taking her to the terrace of the madrasa. The incident came to light after a teacher in the school noticed the girl expressing discomfort in the classroom while she was taking a class about the problems faced by teenagers. Following this, the teacher enquired the girl about the matter and the girl told her about the torture she faced in the madrasa. Subsequently, the school authorities informed the police about the matter.

The Thadiyittaparambu police recorded the child's statement and registered a case against Sharafuddeen. Following this, he was arrested on February 24, 2022.
