BENGALURU: Kannur native Aarav Hanoi has confessed to the murder of Assam-born vlogger Maya Gogoi (19). Aarav, 21, is a native of Thotta, Kannur. Maya was found murdered at the Royal Livings apartment in Indiranagar Second Stage, Bengaluru on Tuesday. Aarav has told the police that he had an argument with Maya in the apartment and attempted suicide after the murder.

The two became friends through a dating app. The suspicion that Maya was in a relationship with someone else led to the murder. There was an argument between the two regarding this. Aarav had bought and kept a rope and a knife online. After reaching the apartment, the two had an argument. Later, Aarav tied the rope around Maya's neck and killed her.

He also stabbed her with a knife to ensure her death. Then, he tried to commit suicide using the same rope that Maya had been killed with on the fan in the room. The young man also gave his statement that he gave up the attempt because it was not working. Police say that Aarav showed signs of severe depression during interrogation. Police clarified that the interrogation will continue only after seeking the services of a psychiatrist.

Aarav, who escaped from Bengaluru, first went to Raichur in North Karnataka. After staying there for a day, he crossed over to Madhya Pradesh. Then he reached Varanasi. From there, he called his grandfather at his house in Thottada, Kannur and spoke to him. Aarav agreed to his grandfather's request to surrender and called the police and informed them that he would surrender. After the police asked him to return to Bengaluru, Aarav returned and was arrested by the police at the Kempegowda International Airport.

Maya and Aarav checked into a room on the evening of the 23rd. Aarav, who spent Sunday and Monday in the room, left after 8 am on Tuesday. After this, the employees noticed a foul smell coming from the room and opened it using another key and the young woman was found murdered. The body was in a state of decomposition.
