KOLLAM: CCTV cameras will be installed on all trains, like in Vande Bharat. The scheme will be implemented in 40,000 coaches within a year. The estimated expense is Rs 15,000 crore. The RPF had submitted a report to the railways that the miscreants and stone-pelters could be quickly identified if the cameras were installed inside and outside the train.

The Railways has initiated steps to procure high-end AI cameras from top institutions. Companies with an annual revenue of Rs 1,200 crore in the three financial years can participate in the tender. The visuals on the camera in the coaches will be available in the bogie for the guards. A screen will be set up for the loco pilot also. Cameras fitted with sensors will be installed to detect the presence of objects up to a certain distance on the track.

Visuals will reach control room

The visuals of the train cameras will be made available to the control room of the railways in the second phase. At present, the trains are equipped with RFID (radio frequency identification) system. It is not possible to reach all the compartments as the number of people in the RPF is low. The railways hope to overcome this crisis with the installation of cameras.
