THRISSUR: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose said that Kerala Kaumudi is displaying exemplary work in the field of journalism by acting as the mirror held up to society. He was inaugurating 'Suvarna Maduram', Kerala Kaumudi's golden jubilee celebration in Thrissur and its golden jubilee office at Hyatt Regency, Puzhakkal.
"Whenever I hear the word 'pathradhipar', K Sukumaran, the founder editor of Kerala Kaumudi, comes to my mind. It is the ability to hear the sounds of silence that enabled Kerala Kaumudi to survive and grow. Pathradhipar K Sukumaran, along with CV Kunhiraman and Sahodaran Ayyappan had the ability to see what others cannot see and hear what others cannot hear. The greatest contribution of Kerala Kaumudi was its action of helping the untouchables recognise their inner strength. Kerala Kaumudi, which raises its voice against corruption, gives importance to development without believing in hate politics," Ananda Bose said.
"Independent journalism is essential for the survival of democracy. In Greek mythology, Medusa is a monster who killed many young warriors. Perseus, a brave hero, confronted Medusa without any weapons. Instead, he held up a mirror against her. Seeing her own grotesque reflection in the mirror, Medusa was stunned and fell to her death. Similarly, journalism's role is to hold up a mirror to the powerful and corrupt, exposing their true nature and bringing them to justice," he said.
"Pathradhipar K Sukumaran was a person who had the courage to present the truth before the people. His descendants are also following this path. It is this courage that earned Kerala Kaumudi a place in the hearts of the people. K Sukumaran used letters as his weapons. Kerala Kaumudi convinced the untouchables and lower caste groups of their inner strength. It helps them to realise themselves," Ananda Bose added.
Revenue Minister K Rajan presided over the function. Kerala Kaumudi deputy editor and unit chief Prabhu Warrier delivered the welcome and introductory speech. CV Ananda Bose released the book 'Amazing Minds', which includes the success stories of 114 distinguished individuals, by handing it over to JK Menon, director of NORKA Roots and chairman of ABN Corporation. Joint Managing Director Darshan Ravi presented Kerala Kaumudi's memento to Ananda Bose. Eminent personalities were honoured at the function. The Golden Jubilee office is located on the second floor of Paramekkavu Pathayapura Building.
