Woman dies after motorbike falls into canal

CHOTTANIKKARA: A woman died after a motorbike fell into a canal near the Kureekkadu railway cross on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Puthiyakavu native Shani MA (45). Vinilkumar, who rode the bike, escaped with minor injuries.

Shani and Vinil had been living together in Puthiyakavu. On Friday afternoon, they had gone to a house in Eruveli in Chottanikkara to sell vegetable seeds. Although they returned home in the afternoon, they again called the housewife in Eruveli and asked her if she was interested in buying stalks of banana harvested near their house. The duo were travelling to the house in Eruveli at night when the bike lost control and fell into the nearby canal.

Since the accident took place on a canal adjacent to a road with minimal human traffic at night, nobody was aware of the incident. It was some of the locals who found the two lying unconscious in the dry canal bed the next morning. Although the Chottanikkara police arrived at the spot and rushed the two to the Trippunithura Taluk Hospital, Shani's life could not be saved.
