Seven Maoists killed in encounter with police in Telangana; leader Pappanna among dead

HYDERABAD: Seven Maoists were killed in an encounter with police in Telangana. The encounter was witnessed in the forest area of Mulugu district. Main Maoist leader Pappanna alias Badru is among the dead. The others have been identified as Egolapu Mallaiah, 43, Mussaki Deval, 22, Mussaki Jamuna, 23, Jaisingh, 25, Kishore, 22, and Kamesh 23.

Mulugu SP Shabarish said the encounter was in the Eturnagaram forest area. Police said that a large cache of arms was recovered from the area. Search is on in the area.

This is the biggest encounter after the killing of ten Maoists in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Ten Maoists were killed by security forces in an encounter in the forest area of Bhandarpadar. The army had recovered several weapons, including an AK-47 rifle, from them. The incident occurred last week. Five Maoists were killed in an encounter in the area the week before.
