WASHINGTON: US President elect Donald Trump has nominated an Indian American as the director of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel will head FBI.
Kash Patel was the head of the US Department of Defense in the first Trump administration. He is known as a Trump confidant. Trump describes him as an "America First Fighter".
Kash Patel was born in New York in 1980 to Gujarati parents.
'I am proud to announce that I will appoint Kash Patel as the next director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer. An 'America First' Fighter. He has spent his career exposing corruption, defending justice, and protecting the American people,' Trump wrote on social media.
Trump also announced that Patel had been nominated as FBI director, and that Chad Chronister, the sheriff of Hillsborough County, Florida, had been chosen to head the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Trump went into detail about Kash Patel's work during his first term. "Kash did an incredible job during my first term. He served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism, Trump said.
