The shooting of Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to Lucifer, has officially wrapped up. Director Prithviraj Sukumaran announced via social media that the final shot was captured at the Malampuzha reservoir at 5:35 AM today. The film is set to hit theaters on March 27, 2024, exactly 117 days from now.
Mohanlal, who reprises his iconic role as Abram Qureshi/Stephen Nedumpally, also shared the news on social media. "An unforgettable 14-month journey spanning eight states and four countries. The brilliance of this film lies in Prithviraj Sukumaran's exceptional direction and Murali Gopi's visionary storytelling," he wrote. He also expressed gratitude to Antony Perumbavoor, Subaskaran, and Lyca Productions for their unwavering support.
The first part of the franchise, Lucifer, was released on March 28, 2019, and became a massive hit. It featured an ensemble cast including Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Saniya Iyappan, Shakti Kapoor, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saikumar and Baiju Santhosh.
In Empuraan, Prithviraj returns as Syed Masood alongside Mohanlal. The film, written by Murali Gopi, has Sujith Vasudev handling cinematography and Deepak Dev composing the music. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas, in collaboration with Lyca Productions, the movie will be released in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
