VIZHINJAM: The trial run at the Vizhinjam international port will end today. The port is all set to start commercial operation from Tuesday when the contract for the first phase ends. The trial run, which has been ongoing since July last year, has been successful. Although the first phase of port construction has been completed, the authorities are waiting for Prime Minister Modi's time for commissioning the project.
The Independent Engineer Provisional Certificate of IIT Chennai will be handed over to the port authorities to officially declare it as a commercial operation port. According to the contract, there are still 90 days to complete the first phase of work. With this, the port will also get the completion certificate.
Shipping companies have started the process to include the port in the jade service. MSC will include Vizhinjam Port in their Jade service connecting Asia and Europe by the biggest container Ships. With this, Vizhinjam will become the only port in the country to get membership in the Jade Service category.
The road construction from the main gate to Mullur has been completed and other road works connecting the port are in progress,
