THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister K Rajan said that though there is no major threat of cyclone Fengal in Kerala state, rain will intensify in north Kerala and people should be cautious. After the disaster management authority meeting, the minister said that arrangements have been made to deal with emergency situations.

Teams of ITBP, CRPF, BSF and Army are on standby. However, there is no need to use their services yet. They are planned to be deployed in north Kerala. Communication is underway with all district collectors. Cyclone Fengal is on the Karnataka-Kerala side. IMD has warned that cyclone Fengal will proceed from the Karnataka border through Mangalore and the north Kerala border including Kannur and Kasargod to the Arabian Sea.

210 mm rainfall in Athikayam

  • Heavy rains lashed several areas on Sunday night. Heavy rains were recorded in Pathanamthitta and Kottayam districts. Pathanamthitta's Athikkayam received 210 mm rainfall
  • Rainfall has weakened in the southern region. Even if Cyclone Fengal moves towards the Arabian Sea, it will remain concentrated in the sea itself.
  • Fishermen should not go to sea. Travel to hilly areas at night should be avoided.
