THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM has expelled Madhu Mullassery, former area secretary of the Mangalapuram area, from the party's primary membership. The decision, taken by the Thiruvananthapuram district committee, was ratified by the state secretariat on Thursday following allegations of factionalism and actions against party principles.
The expulsion comes in the wake of Mullassery’s public dissent and walkout during the Mangalapuram area conference, where he protested against his removal as area secretary. During the event, held in the presence of state committee members A.A. Rahim MP and M. Vijayakumar, Mullassery openly criticized the district leadership, refusing to accept their decision.
In a press release, the district secretariat stated that Mullassery had violated party principles and brought disrepute to the organization. The party’s decision also followed reports of Mullassery’s alleged discussions with BJP leaders, fueling speculation that he might switch allegiance.
The controversy highlights deepening factionalism within the CPM, with the Mangalapuram area conference itself marked by internal conflicts, culminating in the dissolution of certain area committees.
Adding to the intrigue, BJP leaders are scheduled to visit Mullassery's residence at 11 a m today to extend an official invitation to join their party. Sources suggest that Mullassery had held discussions with the BJP state leadership last night, further strengthening speculation about his political future.
