ALAPPUZHA: The car carrying Medical students that collided with a KSRTC bus in Kalarcode yesterday belonged to Ambalappuzha Kakkazham native Shamil Khan. Shamil used to give cars for rent. Shamil told the media that he gave the car to the students in the name of his friendship with them. He said that it was Kannur native Muhammad Jabbar, who died in the accident, who contacted him for the car.
"Jabbar was the one who contacted me for the car. He and two other students came to me and took the car. They said that they would return the car after going for a film. I gave the car in the name of friendship and not for rent. I am acquainted with Jabbar. Jabbar's elder brother, Mishal, is studying engineering in Thiruvananthapuram. I know him very well. He called me and requested me to give the car to Jabbar. He said that they would return the car by morning," Shamil said.
"That's how I gave them the car. They took the car at around 7.30 pm. I learned about the accident at 10 pm. I just wanted to help them. However, I didn't know that it would end up in such a tragedy. I have not slept after hearing about the accident. How can I sleep? Although it was for a short period, I had a good bond with Jabbar. That's why I gave the car. His face is not leaving my mind," Shamil said.
The accident took place at Changanassery Mukku in Kalarcode at around 9.30 pm yesterday.
