THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a disturbing incident, three caretakers at the Child Welfare Committee in Thiruvananthapuram have been arrested for inflicting injuries on the genitalia of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl. The arrested persons are Ajitha, Maheshwari, and Sindhu. They were booked for inflicting cruelty on the child and for attempting to conceal the incident. According to the police, the caretakers committed cruelty to the girl as punishment for apparently urinating on the bed. The caretakers have been booked under the POCSO Act. The three were arrested on the complaint lodged by the General Secretary of the Child Welfare Committee.
The distressing incident of cruelty has taken place at an institution that looks after orphaned children. The incident came to light when the child experienced severe pain and discomfort while bathing, prompting other staff members to alert the General Secretary. A medical examination at Thycaud Hospital revealed injuries on the child's private parts. Following this, the General Secretary lodged a complaint with the police.
