THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lashing out at the Congress, BJP state president K Surendran said that the action of the Opposition Leader and Congress MLAs visiting Munambam and expressing solidarity with the fisherfolk was preposterous.
"The Congress is deceiving poor fishing families. If the Congress genuinely cares about the people of Munambam and other victims of the Waqf encroachment, they should demonstrate it in the Kerala Legislative Assembly and the Indian Parliament," Surendran said.
"Those who unanimously passed a resolution against the Waqf Amendment Act in the Kerala Legislative Assembly without any discussion are now showing solidarity with the people of Munambam. VD Satheesan's party members are the same ones opposing the Waqf Amendment Act introduced by the Central Government in Parliament. The stance of the Munambam protest committee, describing Congress's position as contradictory and disappointing, is a blow to VD Satheesan. Congress' deceptive drama has been exposed through the letter sent by the people of Munambam to Satheesan, stating that they have no hope in Congress," he said.
"The state government announced an investigation commission merely to deceive the protesters. Despite knowing that the people of Munambam won't get justice from them, the Congress and CPM are jointly staging a drama to cool down the growing public sentiment against the Left-Right fronts. The Congress should show courtesy to the people of Munambam by demanding to withdraw the resolution passed by the Kerala Assembly against the Waqf Amendment Act," Surendran added.
