One killed, many injured as bus carrying Ayyappa devotees collides with lorry

KOLLAM: A bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims collided with a lorry claiming the life of one and injuring 16 people. The accident occurred early Wednesday morning at 3:45 am near the old railway station at Aryankavu in Kollam. The dead is Dhanapalan of Salem. Among the injured, the condition of three is critical.

The bus involved in the accident was carrying pilgrims from Salem. The accident happened while they were returning from Sabarimala. A total of 28 people, including children and elderly passengers were on the bus. The lorry struck the bus and the negligence of its driver is suspected.

The bus overturned to a depth of 40 feet. Rescue operations were carried out jointly by police officers on duty at the check post, officials from various departments and and local residents.
