NEW DELHI: A young man's social media post showing passengers lying on the ground floor of IGI airport in Delhi went viral in no time. The series of photos, taken from the boarding gate, showed people lying on floors and not choosing the seats to rest.
Questions are also being raised on why the passengers were sitting on the ground even though there were empty seats at the boarding gate.
Discussions are ongoing regarding the photos shared. Many have raised the pertinent need for sleeping facilities for late-night travellers in one of India’s busiest airports. The photos shared were from October 28 and showed the dire state of passengers about to fly to Port Blair from Delhi on a late-night flight. It was just moments before the scheduled flight that officials cited a delay. The wait extended while the sleep-deprived passengers found it difficult to stretch out on the seats and choose the floors instead. the criticism was also made at the uncomfortable seats in the airport.
Delhi airport apologized for the inconvenience and asked the user to share details of the flight. Earlier too, there was criticism about IGI Airport not providing enough facilities for late-night travellers to sleep while waiting for their flight.
