Elephant fails to survive after hours long rescue mission

THRISSUR: The baby elephant that fell into the septic tank in the yard of Rafy of Elicode, has died. The locals saw the baby elephant in the septic tank Thursday morning at 8 am. They immediately informed the officials of the forest department.

The elephant sustained serious injuries in the fall. The elephant met with a tragic end, proving futile a nearly four-hour-long mission to rescue it. The stones and mud were removed using a JCB. However, by 11.30 am, the elephant died.

A doctors’ team has arrived. The elephant will be taken out and postmortem will be conducted. This is an area where wild elephants are a nuisance. The baby elephant that was with a herd of wild elephants came to this area at night and fell into the septic tank next to an unoccupied house.
