THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police are yet to arrest the SFI leaders accused of assaulting a differently-abled student at University College, citing that the suspects are absconding. However, complainants have alleged that the accused are still present inside the college and are secretly returning to their homes via the Cantonment Police Station.

The district committee of SFI has submitted an explanation to its state leadership regarding the incident. According to the explanation, the college unit committee had attempted to mediate a dispute between two students, both SFI members. The committee claimed that no assault took place and that the widely circulated footage merely showed an argument during the discussion.

Meanwhile, the SFI disciplinary committee is set to record the statement of Muhammed Anas, the second-year graduate student who was allegedly assaulted. The statement will be taken at his residence in Poovachal, Perumkulam Moozhi, later today. Authorities have assured that further action will be based on the student’s account.

Anas has alleged that the assailants threatened to enter his home and harass him if he refused to withdraw the complaint. The incident occurred last Monday, with Anas naming SFI unit president Amal Chand, secretary Vidhu Udaya and unit members Mithun and Alan Jamal as the attackers.

The victim has lodged complaints with the Commission for Persons with Disabilities and the State Human Rights Commission.
