THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala lashed out at the Kerala government for inconsiderately increasing the electricity tariff. The Congress leader called the tariff hike a scam to help Adani in Kerala. He said that efforts are being made to bring Adani into the power purchase business in Kerala.

Ramesh Chennithala :

“The government move will only add up the burden to people. 16 paisa have been currently added while moves are being made to increase another 12 paisa from next month. Rs 7500 crores have been imposed by this government in the last eight years. How can this happen?

The government is moving with drastic measures only to aid Adani in the state. It is unacceptable and we request them to withdraw the price hike on electricity at the earliest.

The government cancelled the long-term contract made by Aryadan Muhammed in 2016. That contract was to get electricity at a low price. This has now resulted in the electricity tariff breaking the roof. The government put a stop to the long-term contract citing corruption by the UDF government. If so, let me ask a question.

The same person who drafted this long-term agreement is now a member of the Regulatory Commission. Let him make an explanation. What is stopping him?”
