ISLAMABAD: Rajender Meghwar has made history becoming the first Hindu police officer in the Police Service of Pakistan. He is presently serving as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Faisalabad. Although there are people from the Hindu community in the posts of inspector and sub-inspector in Pakistan, this is the first time that a Hindu has reached such a top post.
Rajender is a native of Badin in Sindh, Pakistan. He became a part of the Pakistan Police after passing the Competitive Civil Services examination (CSS). Rajender said that by serving in the police force, can solve the problems faced by the people at the grassroots level. He added that this is not possible in other departments.
Senior officials said that the appointment of Rajender Meghwar will bring more achievements in the Pakistan Police. They are happy that a Hindu officer is part of the force. This will help in ensuring that all sections of the police force are included. It will also help in strengthening ties with minorities, senior officials said.
Krishan Sharma, a member of the Pakistan Hindu Mandir Management Committee, said his appointment is not only a personal milestone but also a moment of pride for the Hindu minority in Pakistan. He also pointed out that it increases the possibilities of representation of minorities in the country's civil institutions.
