NEW DELHI: New model Vande Bharat trains are about to be introduced in the country. The new Vande Bharat Express services will not be for passengers but for parcel services with an aim to accelerate the e-commerce sector in the country. The new model will have 16 coaches and according to national media, the rack work is progressing.
The train will be used for cargo movement of small goods such as clothes and mobile phones in the e-commerce segment. With this, the railways expect to overhaul the sloth-paced e-commerce sector in the country. The coaches will be specially designed to be lighter than the passenger ferrying express trains.
The construction will be done to easily load and unload cargo and save time. Routes like Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Chennai are considered the fastest routes in the country. Delhi to Mumbai distance can be travelled in just ten hours and the Chennai - Delhi distance in 24 hours. Vande Bharat passenger trains operate only on a distance of less than 800 km but the norm will not be applied to Vande Bharat cargo express.
