THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Senior Muslim League leader ET Muhammad Basheer seconded KM Shaji’s statement endorsing Waqf's claim over properties in Munambam. Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and P. K. Kunhalikutty dismissed reports of difference within the League over the Munambam issue and cared not to change KM Shaji's stance on the Munambam issue.
The league and congress went into the defensive after K M Shaji vociferously backed Waqf's claim over Munambam and revealed the real reason for the intervention made by Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal in the issue. While everyone was expecting a course correction from League leadership, senior leader ET Muhammad Basheer came up with support for Shaji.
So far, the Muslim League leaders have tried to resolve the issue by not publicly endorsing the claims made by the Waqf board. However now with ET Muhammad Basheer and K M Shaji openly supporting the waqf claims, the party has stepped into a muddle. P. K. Kunhalikutty, who took up the mediator role to resolve the Munambam issue is now in a pickle.
Leaders including Mohammad Basheer, KM Shaji and MK Muneer came forward to reject the argument raised by opposition leader VD Satheesan. Earlier, Panakkad Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and P. K. Kunhalikutty treaded a fine line in the issue, not fully rejecting opposition leader Satheesan’s statement dismissing waqf claim in Munambam.
Minding the current development, Opposition leader VD Satheesan warned League leaders to not fall into the trap set up by Sangh Parivar in Munambam.
