Israel destroys Syrian weapons centre; 'Iran next,' announces Abu Mohammed al-Golani

DAMASCUS: After the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria, Israel and the US launched heavy airstrikes against terrorist groups there, including ISIS. The US said the attack was aimed at preventing ISIS from getting hold of chemical weapons and missiles, taking advantage of the collapse of the army.

Meanwhile, Abu Mohammed al-Golani, the rebel leader who spearheaded Bashar's ouster, announced that the next target would be Iran. Golani's target is Israel and US support. Subsequently, the US began trying to contact the rebel group Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) headed by Golani. Britain has also stated that it will review the label of HTS as a terrorist organization.

Neighbouring country Israel has captured a buffer zone along the border, carrying out airstrikes on centres of pro-Iranian groups in Syria. Israel has bombed Syrian weapons facilities and military bases, including in Damascus. 75 ISIS strongholds were destroyed in US airstrikes.

Assad and his family, who have been granted asylum in Russia, are in a secret facility. Syrian refugees in Turkey have started returning to their homeland. At Russia's request, the UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting to discuss the Syrian issue.

Golani's goal, US recognition

• Head Abu Mohammed al-Golani says HTS no longer has terrorist links. The goal is the image of a politician and thus international support.
• Government chemical weapons will not be misused. Military bases will not fall into the wrong hands. Golani is ready for international cooperation to monitor weapons facilities in Syria
• Iran's interference will no longer be tolerated. Criticism that Iran has turned Syria into a hub to attack Israel and US bases.
• Jolani's victory speech at the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus received huge public support. He used his real name Ahmed Al-Sharaa. He changed his dressing to western style.

Opposition factions may clash

Potential divisions between the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army, the US-backed Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces, ISIS and Shia militias. Differences may lead to mutual confrontation.

People to open underground dungeons

People were on the streets in Syria today. The crowd was trying to find secret prisons and underground dungeons used by the Assad government to suppress opponents. The goal is to rescue anyone in the dungeons. The civil defence group White Helmets has announced a $3,000 reward for information about the secret prisons.
