15-year-old boy mowed down by car; court grants bail to accused

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Priyaranjan, who was accused of killing a 15-year-old boy named Adishekhar with his car in Kattakkada, Thiruvananthapuram. The court granted Priyaranjan bail after considering the contradictions in the witness statements and the fact that the accused has been in jail for over a year.

A bench comprising Justices MM Sundresh and Aravind Kumar observed that no further custody is required, as the trial is set to begin on January 6. The court also said that the trial court can decide on the bail conditions. The state government had opposed granting bail to the accused. Adishekkhar, the son of Kattakkada Poovachal native Arun Kumar and Sheeba, was killed by the accused on August 30, 2023.
