One in custody for murder of disabled woman in Pothencode

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: One person has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of a disabled woman, who was living alone in Pothencode. The police are grilling Thoufeek of Pothencode taken into custody. Thankamony (69) of Manikandan Bhavan opposite to UP School at Koithoorkonam in Mangalapuram was found dead Tuesday morning.

Thoufeek was taken into custody following an investigation conducted focusing on CCTV footage. Thoufeek is an accused in a POCSO case. He can be seen walking in the CCTV footage of the shop near the body found lying.

Her siblings live next to Thankamony's house. They say they did not hear any unusual noise in the morning. The body was found near the house of one of them. Her sister saw the body first. She then informed her relatives and the police. Thankamma used to go to pluck flowers for morning poojas.

Her blouse was found torn. Her earrings are missing. Her body was found covered with the mundu she was wearing. Flowers and her slippers were found lying near the body. Forensic teams and fingerprint experts reached the spot. The Mangalapuram police have registered a case in the incident. After the inquest proceedings, the body will be shifted to the hospital for postmortem.
