KANNUR: The police have registered a case against SFI and KSU activists in connection with the violent clash at Thottada ITI. A case has been registered against 11 SFI activists on the complaint of KSU activist Muhammed Ribin, who was injured in the clash, and against six KSU activists on the complaint of injured SFI activist Ashiq. There is also a case against 17 SFI-KSU activists for obstructing the police in performing their official duties. The police will hold an all-party meeting tomorrow, including all political organizations, on the incident.
Following the clash, KSU has called for an educational strike in the district today. Classes will be disrupted in all campuses in the district, including the professional colleges. The decision is to organize a statewide protest. The strike comes in the wake of injuries to KSU activists in the clash. KSU unit president Ribin, who sustained neck and spine injuries, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kannur. KSU hoisted the flag on the campus the other day. Following this, a clash broke out between the SFI and KSU activists. The police resorted to lathi-charge to control the clash. Following the clash, ITI has been closed indefinitely. KSU has also decided to boycott the Literature Festival being organized by the Kannur University Union from today.
