PALAKKAD: The locals are protesting strongly against the incident in which four children died after a lorry carrying cement overturned at Kalladikode. Locals, who pointed out that many lives have been lost due to the pathetic condition of the road in the area, said that they would not stop the protest until responsible authorities take immediate action in the matter. Hundreds of people are protesting in the region.

"Let the Collector or other higher authorities come... If they can't improve the condition of this road, then what's the point? We can't even travel through this route... How can we send our children to schools through this road? The accidents here didn't start today or yesterday. Fifteen to twenty people have died here. We just want a solution to this problem, that's all," demanded the locals.

The accident took place at Panayampadam in Kalladikode on the Kozhikode-Palakkad National Highway. The lorry carrying cement to the Mannarkkad region overturned and fell on top of the children who were returning from school. Four girls studying at Karimba Higher Secondary School were killed in the accident. The deceased are Irfana, Mitha, Rida and Ayisha.
