THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that heavy rain would continue to batter Kerala on Friday as well. The rainfall is attributed to a low-pressure system near the Gulf of Mannar, which is moving from south-central Kerala towards Lakshadweep. This system is expected to intensify upon reaching Lakshadweep by this evening.
South-central districts will continue to receive heavy rainfall till today afternoon. An orange alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts today. These districts will receive rainfall between 115 mm and 205 mm within 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki districts. People living in hilly areas prone to landslides and flooding are advised to relocate if necessary.
After a temporary lull post-tomorrow, the northeast monsoon is expected to become active again by Monday due to the formation of another low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. Fishing activities along the Kerala coast are prohibited. Coastal residents are advised to stay vigilant due to the possibility of high waves.
