PALAKKAD: Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar will visit Panayampadam on Saturday where four school girls were killed in Karimba. The minister will lead the necessary remedial measures to be taken in the accident area. As part of the meeting held yesterday, a special team of officials from various departments will also visit the site. Inspections related to the implementation of the suggestions made in the meeting will be held today.
Meantime, various political organizations will organize protests at the site today. A hunger strike will be held under the leadership of the Kongad Block Congress Committee. The Muslim Youth League will block the Kongad constituency National Highway Road.
The accident that shook the place happened on Thursday evening. Two lorries collided and one of the lorries overturned on top of the children. The students killed were Ayesha, Irfana, Rida and Nida, all eighth-class students of Karimba Higher Secondary School. The locals had alleged that the accident was caused by the speeding of the vehicles and that Panayampadam is an accident hot spot. A case of murder was registered against the lorry drivers in the incident. They were remanded yesterday.
