THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the SFI members broke the security cordon and protested near the venue, the doors and windows of the Senate Hall of Kerala University were locked for an hour and police provided security for Governor Arif Mohammad Khan. Finally, the governor was brought out of the university in a cordon by CRPF and police.
40 SFI members jumped over the wall to reach the opening venue of the International Sanskrit Seminar at 11:30 in the morning. There was a huge police presence under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Bharath Reddy. The police closed 13 windows and seven doors when it was confirmed that SFI members would enter the hall. A door on the left side was left half open for emergencies. The iron grills in front of the Senate Hall were lowered. A police team camped near the doors.
More than 1,600 people, including students, university staff and teachers, who were present in the hall, were shocked. Breaking through the police cordon, the SFI members stormed the windows on the right side of the Senate Hall and shouted slogans. The police pushed the doors to prevent them from opening. Police and SFI members had a scuffle in the hall's verandah.
All this time, the police did not release anyone from the hall. Later, SFI members marched to the front of the university in protest. All this time, armed CRPF men were standing guard near the Governor and in front of the venue. The doors and windows were opened only after the protestors left at half past twelve.
The police registered a case against 100 people including SFI leaders Sijo, Anushree, Afzal and Adarsh. The case is for obstructing the movement and obstructing the official performance of the police. Four people were arrested and released released. Two people were given notices.
"The City Police Commissioner should be asked about not arresting the protestors. Their reason for protesting is their frustration."
