KOZHIKODE: A woman died after being hit by a Vande Bharat train. The incident happened Thursday morning at Koyilandy in Kozhikode at 8.40 am. The accident occurred under the flyover while the train was passing through Koyilandy. It is difficult to identify the body. The body has been shifted to the mortuary of the Koyilandy Taluk Hospital.
Many people have died earlier in Kozhikode after being hit by a Vande Bharat train. Abdul Hameem, a native of Chakkumkadavu in Kozhikode, died a few days ago after being
hit by a Vande Bharat, which was going from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod. The accident occurred while he was crossing the railway tracks at Chakkumkadavu. One had also died at Elathur in Kozhikode.
Despite warnings that crossing railway tracks is dangerous, many people do it to save time. Only a few people walk across the flyover and reach the other side. This year alone, more than 500 people have died after hit by trains. The increase in the number and speed of trains and the reduction in noise when the engine was switched to electric have led to an increase in accidents. Other reasons include the change in the structure of the track and the widespread use of three-phase engines.
The railway track and its surroundings are a danger zone. Therefore, there is a law that people should not enter there. Therefore, if a person dies after being hit by a train within the railway limits, the railway will not provide compensation. This law applies even to a railway employee if an accident occurs without a work permit card. Crossing the tracks through level crossings is also punishable.
