KOCHI: The Waqf Tribunal has directed the submission of documents dating back to 1902 to prove the ownership of the Munambam Waqf land. The directive was issued to Siddique Sait, the previous owner of the land, and the authorities of Farook College. According to the records, the land in Munambam was leased by the Travancore king to Abdul Sattar Moosa Sait in 1902 for agricultural purposes.

The issue was considered during the tribunal's sitting held in Kochi yesterday. The tribunal stated that records of 1952 will be examined only if the records of 1902 are unavailable. The tribunal sought clarification on how Siddique Sait came to possess the land and instructed him to provide evidence if it was acquired as a gift.

The tribunal also noted that if the land was obtained through a lease agreement, it would not qualify as Waqf land. The opposing party argued that the land might have been received as a gift. The tribunal instructed them to provide proof of this claim. The court will consider the case again on January 25.
