SEOUL: A passenger flight crashed in South Korea killing 62 people. Many are seriously injured in the drastic incident and the death toll is likely to rise. The accident happened near the Muan airport after a Jeju Airlines flight carrying 181 people from Thailand crashed during an emergency landing.
The initial findings blamed a bird strike for the accident that happened at 9 am on Sunday. Of the 175 passengers on board, 173 are South Koreans. Two are from Thailand. There were six cabin crew members.
The South Korean incident adds to the list of yet another air tragedy in December after an Azerbaijan plane crashed in the Aktau region of Kazakhstan some days ago. The shock over the crash was yet to fade out when news appeared about another air tragedy in South Korea.
Russia said that the accident was caused by a bird strike. However, since the accident was in Russian airspace, it was alleged that a Russian missile might have accidentally shot down the Azerbaijan flight. The Azerbaijan flight also crashed while attempting an emergency landing.
