THRISSUR: A tourist project akin to Disneyland is all set to be implemented in Athirappilly. The tourism destination is bracing for transformation with the help of the central government. The project is the brainchild of MoS Suresh Gopi.

The process will start within two months and then the DPR will be prepared and submitted to the central government. Suresh Gopi said that the aim is to complete it by the end of next year. There are other tourism projects planned in the state including pilgrimage tourism.

Athirappilly was selected as the prime destination for the project considering the easy access to the place and the attractive scenic views roping in massive foreign tourists to the spot. Athirappilly Waterfalls, which stands tall at 80 feet is one of the largest in Kerala. This waterfall also remains the most sought-after location for film shooting in the state.

Recently, the state government included Athirappilly in the analysis meeting held by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar regarding the new electricity projects in Kerala. But Suresh Gopi remained steadfast in reforming Athirappilly as a tourism centre with international standards rather than a power project base.

Theme Parks, Hotels, Resorts, Rides, Mystic Forest, Little Village Theatre, Toy Station, Adventure Island, Jungle Gardens, and Adventure Land Bazaar are the highlights of the upcoming project.
