OTTAWA: A plane caught fire during landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Canada. The incident took place around 9.30 pm local time. The plane that caught fire was flying from Newfoundland. The cause of the accident was the malfunction of the landing gear while landing on the runway. The damaged landing gear caused the wing to scrape the runway and ignite a fire. The incident comes within hours of the plane crash in South Korea. Reportedly, no one was injured in the incident. The fire in the plane was quickly extinguished and the passengers were evacuated to a safe place.
A video captured by passengers from inside the plane is circulating on social media. Panicked passengers can be seen in the video. Air Canada Fleet AC2259 of PAL Airlines was involved in the accident. All flight services at the airport were temporarily suspended due to the fire. The video shows a part of the plane scraping the floor and catching fire as it is landing. Aviation officials said they are investigating the cause of the landing gear failure. About 80 passengers were on board at the time of the accident.
