Veli sea tragedy: Two youths die after drowning

KULATHUR: Two youths, who were undergoing treatment after drowning in the sea in Veli, died on Monday. The deceased are Valiyaveli natives Joshi Joy (41) and Kevin David Kunjumon (25).

The incident occurred on the morning of the 25th near Veli Church. Kevin David and his friend Anto were swept away by strong waves while bathing in the sea. Seeing this, fisherman Joshi Joy first rescued Anto and then jumped back into the sea to save Kevin David. Unfortunately, Joshi also drowned during the rescue attempt.

Both were later rescued by a group of fishermen and locals and taken to the hospital. However, both of them died yesterday. Joshi Joy was a fisherman. He is survived by his wife, PS Ashwathy, and son, Aiden Joshi. Kevin David is survived by his sister, Kefiya.
