JAIPUR: One of the most gruelling and complicated rescue operations in Rajasthan ended in heartbreak after the three-year-old girl, rescued from the borewell, died on the way to the hospital. Three-year-old Chetana was pulled out from the borewell after nine long days.
On the 23rd, Chetana fell into a 700-ft deep borewell while playing in her father’s farmland. The child was trapped at a depth of 150 feet. Rescue operations started immediately. The team tied a hook to a ten-foot iron rod and tied the other end to the child’s clothes and tried to lift her up but to no avail.
Later, the team dug up soil parallel to the spot with the help of machines in high hopes of rescuing the child. Heavy rains and wet soil in the area made rescue operations difficult. The child survived without water and food for the last nine days. The team monitored the child’s movements through a camera but at one stage, the visuals went blank and couldn’t be reconnected.
At the same time, the child’s family came up alleging negligence from authorities which they believe resulted in the rescue operations going futile.
