THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: For the rehabilitation of Wayanad disaster victims, the cost of construction of houses constructed by sponsors in two townships will be less than Rs.30 lakhs. It will be only after preparing the final list of houses to be built that the exact cost can be determined.
In the meeting of the sponsors who agreed to build more than 100 houses, the Chief Minister revealed that the price of each house will be around Rs 30 lakh. Soon after this statement, the opposition, DYFI and other sponsors expressed doubt over the amount and opined that the price would be less than Rs 30 lakh. Right after this, the Chief Minister came with a clarification regarding the amount.
Rs 30 lakh per house was based on Central Public Works Department rates, including the cost of construction materials and freight. The design of houses built on pillars and others were prepared for this. Building houses together under EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) will result in a significant difference in the cost of goods and freight charges. Naturally, the cost of construction will come down significantly. The opposition and some of the sponsors informed the rate for a house would be only around 20 lakhs.
